Hello, my name is Philip Weston & I am the founder of Berkeley Weston Ltd, publishers of the DIY Probate Pack. I am a former legal adviser and probate practitioner with 21 years experience. I founded the business in 2004 to help consumers overcome tricky legal problems without spending a fortune on solicitor’s fees.
As well as having a substantial online presence, we are a real “bricks and mortar” business, with our HQ based here in Leicester. My private clients are welcome to visit our offices by appointment.
The aim of my website site is to help consumers obtain probate quickly and easily, by providing the right tools and support.
Why
I started providing the DIY Probate Pack to satisfy a huge consumer demand. My colleagues and I were taking hundreds of calls a month from consumers seeking advice how deal with probate themselves without getting a solicitor involved.
Most people contacted us for help because they wanted to deal with straightforward probate matters themselves, but were worried about how to go about it, what exactly was involved and how they could avoid making mistakes that would leave them out of pocket.
They wanted a step- by-step, risk-free, quick and easy way of obtaining probate themselves. I put together the DIY Probate Pack with these people in mind.
Before I launched the DIY Probate Pack there was a clear gap in the legal services market. Up until then, consumers had a very limited choice when it came to obtaining probate:
- Use a solicitor & pay £thousands in legal fees. Many people do not want to use a solicitor, as aside from the extortionate cost, they want to carry out their duties as an executor themselves without involving a stranger.
- Do everything themselves without any help. This meant completing all the research, working out who to inform, completing legal paperwork & writing all letters etc without any guidance or support. This isn’t really a satisfactory option as there are a number of things that can go wrong if you don’t know what you are doing. It is also very time consuming and can be a real headache.
